Cadet finds challenges, path to leadership at OTS

Cadet Jacob Turner decided to attend Officer Training School because he wanted to become a part of something much bigger than himself. A recent Clemson University graduate with no military experience, Turner said completing the challenging and rewarding leadership school is the first step toward his aspirations of being an aviator in the U.S. Air Force.

Guardsman Caught Off-Guard: OTS experience becomes a pleasant surprise

With thousands of Cadets graduating Officer Training School every year, it’s inevitable that experiences will vary drastically from one person to the next. Cadet Eric Keller from New Paltz, NY has a unique perspective of one of the Air Force’s main officer training programs. Keller, a member of the Air National Guard for nearly nine years, acted as a guardsman as well as an active duty service member. His experience as a prior service member prepared him for the rudimentary facets of Total Force Officer Training (TFOT), namely dorm maintenance, marching, customs and courtesies, and dress and appearance. These aspects, tedious as they may sometimes seem, have their utilities in instilling discipline, attention to detail, and situational awareness in the Cadets who graduate from the program.

Air Force celebrates three-peat win at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Leadership and Academic Bowl

The Air Force took top honors for the third year in a row at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Leadership and Academic Bowl in Washington, D.C., June 23-25. The Air Force Junior ROTC team from Scripps Ranch High School, San Diego, battled it out to take home the trophy for a third time.

Aviation pioneers encourage innovation, resiliency during annual Gathering of Eagles

Air University’s Air Command and Staff College welcomed 10 distinguished visitors who have made significant contributions in aerospace history to visit the school May 29-31, for the 37th annual Gathering of Eagles event here. The event, now serving as a capstone for the ACSC curriculum, invited these prominent speakers to share their stories of courage, perseverance and innovation with the officers and civilians attending the school in an effort to inspire today’s military leaders to achieve greatness in support of their country.

OTS revamps program creating more efficient, effective training environment

Over the past year Air University’s Officer Training School has been revamping program in order to provide a more efficient and effective training experience for its cadets. One of the major changes the school has made has been the implementation of pre-requisite courses designed to cover topics, which otherwise would be done during a mass-lecture when the cadets arrive.

From Africa to America: Perseverance paves the way for a future officer

There are many ways to distinguish yourself from a group of people. Maybe you’re the smartest, most athletic or funniest person in a group. Maybe you have a different background or speak a different language. If you’re Gabirele McStanislav-Cudjoe, a cadet in Air Force Officer Training School, you’re from a different country, your first spoken language isn’t English and you came from a different branch of the U.S. military. Of all the differences between McStanislav-Cudjoe and his fellow cadets, however, the one thing that truly makes him stand out is his heart.

Air Force soars during 2018 National High School Drill Team Championships

The nation’s top Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida, May 4-6, for the 2018 National High School Drill Team Championships. The high school students showcased their skills in both armed and unarmed categories in front of judges and military training instructors from all branches of the military during the three day event.
