From needing guidance for an upcoming move to seeking life-saving help, Military OneSource can provide solutions with just one phone call.

As part of the Defense Senior Enlisted Leader’s Council annual meeting, the spouses of the service and combatant command senior enlisted advisors visited the Military OneSource Center in Rosslyn, Virginia, Thursday.

“Military OneSource is like 911, 411, Google and a GPS all in one,” said Kathryn Spadaro, wife of Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Anthony Spadaro, U.S. Pacific Command senior enlisted leader.

The three main reasons Military OneSource is called are spouse education and career opportunities, confidential non-medical counseling and financial and tax consultation.

In addition to these services, hub also offers resources for wounded warriors and caregivers, spouse relocation and transition, special needs, health and wellness coaching, education, adoption, document translation, language interpretation and adult disability and elder care.

“Military life presents special circumstances and Military OneSource is a 24/7 call center for information, answers and support,” said Erika Slaton, Military OneSource program analyst.

All of the consultants have a master’s degree. Counseling can be conducted face-to-face or via phone, online or video. MilitaryOneSource.mil also offers secure online chat capabilities.

Military OneSource is free and all information is kept secure and confidential, with the exception of anyone who threatens to harm themselves or others.

“Military OneSource provides vetted resources all in place,” said Elka Giordano, wife of Master Chief Petty Office of the Navy Steven Giordano. “When you Google something, the information can be overwhelming, but Military OneSource is accurate and it is in your best interest.”

Eligibility for Military OneSource includes:

  • Active duty, Guard and reserve
  • Immediate family members
  • Members of the Coast Guard, when activated by the Navy
  • Expeditionary civilians, 90 days before deployment and 180 after deployment
  • Retired or honorably discharged service members, to include a general discharge, up to 180 days past separation
  • Surviving non-remarried spouses and children

“If you’re not sure if you’re eligible, please call anyway,” said Rachel Kaufmann, Military OneSource specialty programs director. “We’ll help them sort it out.”
