JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas – Air Education and Training Command officials released the command’s 2018 Strategic Plan today, designed to advance the First Command’s vision to “Inspire and Develop MACH-21 Airmen.”

The plan focuses on developing AETC into an organization that encourages innovation, empowers commanders to make decisions, and leverages the AETC commander’s new role as the Air Force’s Force Development commander.

“The 2018 AETC Strategic Plan charts a new path where an innovative mindset is a must, and where new methods and technologies are adopted to make our command as agile and responsive as our Airmen need to be,” said Lt. Gen. Steve Kwast, AETC commander.

The plan aligns activities across the command, complements Headquarters Air Force imperatives, and focuses on mission success while supporting Airmen and their families. It also highlights three strategic goals for the command:

  • Implement a competency-based construct that quantifies and captures learning from education, training and experience, and is the force development foundation.
  • Capture, validate and analyze force development data to guide and inform Continuum of Learning and resource decisions.
  • Grow the human and technological capacity needed to support, enhance and accelerate force development across the Total Force.

Kwast placed significant emphasis on “agile and responsive for all Airmen across the command”.

“To do this, we are refocusing our Headquarters on strategy and policy, and empowering the Numbered Air Forces to lead mission execution,” he said. “The goal is to bring execution decision-making closer to the front lines where our Airmen are achieving success every day.”

Kwast also stressed that information is power, and that it is more important now than ever to rely on quick, honest communication among teammates.

“Great nations are only great because of their people, so I am asking you to familiarize yourself with the course we have set for this command,” Kwast said. “Once you have done that, take a moment to really reflect about where and how you fit into this plan. I want you to be bold, aggressive, and innovative.”
