AFJROTC Co-Curricular Activities

Drill Team

AFJROTC cadets across the nation dedicate countless hours to their unit’s drill team. Drill Team participation is used as a means of instilling discipline and esprit de corps, and continues to be one of the finest methods for developing confidence and leadership abilities of cadets.  Units compete at local, state, regional and national drill team competitions throughout the year.  While fostering a friendly and entertaining environment, these competitions provide cadets an opportunity to showcase their hours of dedication and tremendous marching skills.

CyberPatriot

CyberPatriot is the premier national high school cyber defense competition that is designed to give hands on exposure to the foundations of cyber security. CyberPatriot was conceived by the Air Force Association to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. CyberPatriot’s goal is to excite students about STEM education while emphasizing fun, hands-on learning of cybersecurity principles that are relevant and applicable to everyday life.

StellarXplorers

StellarXplorers inspires and attracts high school students to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through a challenging, space system design competition involving all aspects of system development and operation with a spacecraft/payload focus.  The Program supplies a self-contained academic/education component accessed online as a curriculum supplement, as well as specific training in the use of system simulation software, Systems Tool Kit. The competition leading up to the finals will be accomplished from the team’s home location.  Exciting hands-on learning experience that develops commercially valuable skills and increases appreciation for the critical role of space in our daily lives … and it is FUN!!!

Academic Bowl

AB competition 2 JLAB 2012

One of the main goals of the JROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT.  However, many JROTC instructors are understandably interested in measuring how well their cadets are learning the JROTC curriculum. Therefore, we will have a mix of JROTC curriculum as well as English, Math and Science in each level of the competition.

Color Guard

The Color Guard is one of the most noticeable co-curricular activities within the AFJROTC program. Being part of the Color Guard gives a cadet the insight into how to properly present the national colors for selected events throughout the school year. The Color Guard consists of four highly motivated cadets that take pride in the presentation of the national colors at many events.
