Readout of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dunford's Meeting with United Kingdom’s Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach

WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
 
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., met with United Kingdom’s Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach today at the Pentagon.
 
The two leaders discussed the current security environment in Europe in addition to ongoing global counterterrorism efforts, and other issues of mutual interest.  They agreed to remain vigilant to defend, deter and, when necessary, fight to protect a strong, free and prosperous United States and Europe.
 
Gen. Dunford also congratulated Chief Air Marshal Peach on his upcoming assignment as the next Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. The two agreed to continue their work to make NATO a more responsive, agile and credible alliance.
 
Later this evening, Gen. Dunford will host an Armed Forces Full Honor Arrival ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, where Air Chief Marshal Peach will be presented with the Legion of Merit for his meritorious service and leadership as well as his efforts to bolster key military support for the Defeat-ISIS Coalition.  His efforts contributed to the significant degradation of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
 
The United Kingdom and United States share a long history of mutual support and cooperation, which are cornerstones of the strong alliance and special relationship between the two nations.
