WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., spoke with Chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Jeong Kyeongdoo by phone this morning.
Gen. Dunford congratulated Gen. Jeong on his nomination as defense minister. The two leaders discussed the current security environment around the Korean Peninsula. They committed to continuing close cooperation as allies and to maintaining close coordination on mutual security issues of interest.
The United States - Republic of Korea alliance is a lynchpin of stability and security in Northeast Asia.
