Col Straw

Colonel Wayne W. Straw is the Commandant, Squadron Officer School, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. The School’s team of military and civilian faculty develop Professional Military Education curriculum and teach over 4,200 company grade officers annually. The School educates Air Force Captains to think, communicate, cooperate, and lead in the joint environment.


Colonel Straw is from Altamonte Springs, Fla. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Wake Forest University and a Master of Business Administration from Florida State University before commissioning through Officer Training School in 1993 as a distinguished graduate. Colonel Straw has had multiple flying assignments and has over 2,000 flight hours in the F-15E, including almost 700 in combat. He completed two combat tours in Afghanistan consisting of a year in command of the Operations Support Squadron at the busiest airfield in the country and a year as an Afghanistan Pakistan Hand working with special operations forces and Afghans at the village, district, provincial, and national levels. His staff experience includes responsibilities at the Numbered Air Force, Component Command, and Geographic Combatant Command levels. Prior to his current position, Colonel Straw was the Director of Student Operations at the Air War College, Air University, Maxwell AFB, Ala.

Col Lass

Lieutenant Colonel Dina L. Quanico is the Vice Commandant of Squadron Officer School, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.


Lieutenant Colonel Quanico was born in San Diego, California.  She graduated from San Diego State university and was commissioned in the Air Force through Officer Training School in 1997. She has served in a variety of Force support positions at unit, base, Major command, Headquarters and Combatant command levels. Prior to her current position, Lieutenant Colonel Quanico was the chief, Joint Manpower Organization and Resources Branch, Manpower and Personnel Directorate, United States Pacific command, Capt H.M. Smith, Hawaii. 

Lt. Col Lebeck

Lieutenant Colonel Brian W. Lebeck is the Dean of Squadron Officer School, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Lieutenant Colonel Lebeck is from Stoughton, WI. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from Iowa State University. Lieutenant Colonel Lebeck received his commission in 1997 through Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base. He graduated from Undergraduate Navigator Training, Randolph Air Force Base in 1999 as a distinguished graduate and winner of the Air Education and Training Command Commander’s Trophy. Lieutenant Colonel Lebeck also holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Auburn University and two master’s degrees. Finally, Lieutenant Colonel Lebeck has previously served as a deputy group commander, a squadron director of operations twice, group deputy chief of standardization and evaluations, group executive officer, squadron executive officer, assistant director of operations, and a flight commander three times.


Lieutenant Colonel Lebeck is a master navigator with 2,492 hours of experience and has served as both an instructor and evaluator on multiple variants of the C-135 and E-4B aircraft.
