The AU TLC hosts many events and activities that foster and support teaching and learning at the Air University. Some events and activities are sponsored and managed by the TLC while others are owned and conducted mainly by other organizations with the TLC providing facilities and logistical support. There are recurring activities such as the SME Talks, Crosstalks and Canvas Users Group but also single events such as a Virtual Reality Workshop or AFCLC's LREC Symposium. The sections below provide descriptions for some of the events and in some cases there are links to related slides or videos.
The AU TLC sponsors a different SME Talk every Thursday at noon (CST) in the TLC auditorium on the 2nd floor of the AU Library (MSFRIC). SME Talks are 50-minute presentations/discussions focusing on topics that pertain to teaching and learning with an emphasis on faculty development and support. The presenters are usually AU faculty who are willing to share their expertise on a particular topic but some of the presentations are given by experts outside of AU. The SME Talks are open to all and attendees are welcome to bring their lunch or snacks to the event. A few examples of past SME Talk topcis include; Rubrics, Active Learning, Managing Student Feedback, Virtual Reality for Education and Managing Classroom Technology.
AU CrossTalks are discussions and broad information sharing events held monthly at the TLC. The purpose of Crosstalks is to provide a channel of communication between AU organizations for faculty and staff to share ideas, issues, problems and solutions. Each CrossTalk lasts from 60-90 minutes and has a limited agenda for specific items before the "floor is opened" for discussion and general collaboration. Each CrossTalk is different but generally the discussions address; learning technology, sharing resources, local events, visitors and classoorm methods or techniques.
Canvas Users Group
The TLC is hosting a Canvas Users Group meeting every other Monday at 12 (noon). The focus of this users group is the day-to-day operation of the Canvas Learning Management System from a designer and instructor point of view. The Canvas Users Group is open to all AU faculty and staff but is targeted at anyone interested in learning how to build and teach courses in Canvas. Meetings include presentations, demonstrations and tutorials for Canvas with the opportunity for hands-on practice. Since many AU schools and programs are actively engaged in migrating courseware to Canvas, this users group provides a great opportunity to learn more about Canvas and share knowledge and expertise with others. During some meetings there are opportunities for AU schools/programs to showcase work with Canvas. In addition, there are always opportunities to ask questions and get help with using Canvas.
Virtual Reality (VR) Community of Interest
The AU TLC will soon be host to an AU Virtual Reality Community of Interest with meetings occurring monthly at the TLC.
