Program Eligibility and Enrollment

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for SDE/AWC DL are found in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2301, Developmental Education. Refer to AFI 36-2301 for further details or updates.

  • Military: The program is offered to O-5 selects and above. Persons may be active duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve (AFRES), or Air National Guard (ANG); sister-service active duty, Guard, or Reserve; or Civil Air Patrol (CAP).
    • Officers who are designated as SDE-selects are prohibited from enrolling in AWC DL unless they fall under the criteria established in AFI 36-2301.
    • ANG and AFRES members have the opportunity to enhance their SDE/AWC DL PME experience with Air Reserve Component Seminars (ARCS). Click here for more information on SDE/AWC ARCS.
  • Civilian: DoD civilian employees in the grades of GS 13/14/15, NH III or lab/demo employees in grades DRIII/IV are eligible to enroll.
    • Civilian employees in the grade of GS-13 or equivalent, must have completed ACSC (online or in-residence) before they are eligible to enroll in the SDE/AWC DL program.
  • International: International applicants must be an O-5 select or higher. International officers must forward requests to Air Force Security Assistance Training (AFSAT) (with a CC to SAF/IA) through the country security assistance organization or country embassy. Please refer to AFI 36-2301, Section 11, for guidance.

Enrollment

If you meet the program eligibility, you must create an AUSIS account before enrolling. A CAC card is required to create the account using the following method: Go to AF Portal and login. Under QUICK LINKS, scroll down to EDUCATION/TRAINING/FORCE DEVELOPMENT, and click on Air University Portal, go to the silver bar that reads "Click here to login or create a new account," and click on "Create Account." Once you follow the steps, go down to the menu bar on the left side of the AU Portal page and hover over "Distance Learning," then hover over "AWC" and select "AUSIS." From the AUSIS page, click on "Create Account."
