The tutorials below are provided to help you use the Blackboard learning environment more effectively. The first seven items are the most critical and should be reviewed as soon as you start using Blackboard. The remaining tutorials can enhance your productivity as you progress through your PME studies.
How to Navigate Blackboard (3 pages)
This link provides an overview of how the eSchool Blackboard interface is set up. Although it specifically utilizes screenshots from AWC, the same layout is used for the tabs in the Online Masters Program, the ACSC Non-masters Program, and the SOS program. A familiarization with where information is located will help you quickly navigate to the desired information.
Setting/Updating Email and Privacy Settings (Video 3:32)
Click to watch the video for updating personal information. Take the time to set up your email. We recommend using a personal email but you can use your .mil email if that is more convenient. Realize either way, spam filters might block some email from reaching you (check spam folder). Additionally, you can adjust your privacy settings in Blackboard. The video walks you through the process.
Changing your Blackboard Password (Video 1:31)
Click to watch the video for updating your password. The video walks you through the process.
Changing your Notifications Settings (Video 3:19)
Click to watch the video for updating notifications. Use the information in this video to tailor the amount of information Blackboard sends to your email account. The video procedure for accessing the notifications page is outdated, but the directions for adjusting the actual settings are correct.
Changing your Profile (Video 2:46)
Click to watch the video for changing your profile. This is different than your personal settings. Your profile (avatar) is what other students see when interacting with you online. Pictures must be at least 50x50 pixels, but less than 5 MB, and can be submitted in .gif, .png, or .jpg formats.
To create your profile, click on the avatar icon above the tabs near the top of Blackboard (Global Navigation Menu),
then click the avatar icon a second time when the drop-down menu opens up. You will need to provide an email address in order to set up your profile. If you profile is already setup you can click here to edit your profile.
Posting on a Threaded Discussion Board (Video 1:37)
Discussion Boards (Threaded Discussion Questions -TDQ) will be used throughout your PME experience. Typically you will be asked to post your response to a question provided by your instructor, but TDQs can be used in other ways as well. Click on this video to become familiar with the steps involved in posting to your course discussion board.
Replying to a Post on a Threaded Discussion Board (Video 2:03)
Discussion Boards (Threaded Discussion Questions) will be used throughout your PME experience. Typically, after you post an initial response on the TDQ you will be asked to provide a meaningful reply to two of your classmates' posts. Click on this video to become familiar with the steps involved in submitting a reply to a classmate's TDQ post.
